Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 19, 2026
YourShelf ("we", "us", "our") is an independent project operated by a solo developer. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep things straightforward because we believe privacy should be simple to understand.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from your Google account.
Profile information: Any information you choose to add to your profile, including your username, bio, location, avatar image, header image, social links, and your media picks (films, TV shows, books, video games, music albums, and related categories).
Payment information: If you subscribe to YourShelf Pro, payment details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or full payment details on our servers. We only store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
Technical information: When you use YourShelf, we automatically collect your IP address and browser user agent as part of session management. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking services.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and profile page
- To display your media picks and social links on your public profile
- To process payments and manage your subscription
- To send transactional emails (sign-in links, account notifications)
- To send occasional promotional emails about new features or updates
- To protect the security and integrity of the service
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run ads on the platform.
3. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to operate YourShelf, including providers for authentication (Google OAuth), payment processing (Stripe), email delivery, database hosting, application hosting, and image hosting. Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.
For media data, we fetch information from external APIs (such as TMDB, Spotify, IGDB, and Hardcover). These requests are made from our servers to retrieve media metadata (titles, posters, etc.). Your personal information is not shared with these media data providers.
4. Cookies and Sessions
We use session cookies to keep you signed in. These are essential cookies required for the service to function — we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Session data (including your IP address and user agent) is stored in our database for security purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. Media metadata cached from external APIs is automatically refreshed on a regular basis. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us using the information below.
6. Your Rights
You can update or delete your profile information at any time through your account settings. If you want to request a full deletion of your account and data, or if you have questions about what data we hold, please contact us. We will respond to requests in a reasonable timeframe.
7. International Data Transfers
YourShelf uses cloud services that may process data in different countries. By using the service, you consent to your information being transferred and processed in jurisdictions that may have different data protection laws than your own.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and environment variable management for all credentials. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
YourShelf is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of YourShelf after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
